Hi there! I’m Sarah, a freelance Lighting Designer based in Jersey City, New Jersey. While growing up outside of Boston, I had a vast interest in the arts. I experimented with many forms - I danced, played instruments, and wrote. I became aware of light as a medium in high school after I joined theater on a whim. I remember watching in awe as light instruments, like dabs of paint, transformed the environment on stage into a storybook.
Light has been my own medium ever since, enriched by my background in reading, writing, music, and dance. My lighting is always reactive to the story at hand. I work emotionally and boldly, often with strong color choices and exposed sources. The collaboration between director and designers is what fuels me - it is central to my process. I hope to surround myself with other emerging artists who are passionate about telling stories for now.
I am proud to have graduated from the Lighting Design BFA program at Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University in December 2022.
What are you working on?
Say hi!
